De Tomaso P900 Channels F1 Sound
De Tomaso is making headlines with the P900, a V12-powered supercar tuned to capture the sound and spirit of classic Formula 1. The naturally-aspirated engine and retro-inspired design evoke the golden era of motorsport, targeting enthusiasts who crave analog sensation in a digital age. The project represents De Tomaso's return to high-performance manufacturing after years of dormancy.
The De Tomaso P900 is a track-only hypercar, of which only 18 will be made, each with a price tag of approximately $3 million. The car's name is a direct reference to its target dry weight of 900 kilograms, which, combined with its 900 horsepower engine, achieves a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio. At the heart of the P900 is a bespoke, naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V12 engine developed with the Italian engineering firm Italtecnica. This powerhouse produces 900 horsepower and has a redline of 10,200 rpm. The engine is designed to run on synthetic, carbon-neutral fuels, future-proofing the car against tightening emissions regulations. For customers who took earlier delivery before the V12 was finalized, an interim engine option was offered: a Judd V10 derived from a 1997 Formula 1 engine. The P900's design is an extreme evolution of the road-focused De Tomaso P72 and features aggressive aerodynamics, including an active rear wing with an F1-inspired Drag Reduction System (DRS). The car's chassis is a carbon-fiber monocoque with an integrated roll cage to meet racing safety standards. Production of the P900 began in August 2024, with each car being hand-assembled by a team of four artisans over a period of 1,600 hours. The P900 project is part of the De Tomaso brand's revival under CEO Norman Choi, who also acquired the rights to the Apollo supercar brand. The P900's design was penned by Jowyn Wong, who also styled the Apollo IE and the De Tomaso P72. To support owners, De Tomaso has established the De Tomaso Competizione program. This factory-run series provides owners with driver training, maintenance, and the opportunity to race their cars at world-renowned circuits with a dedicated team of mechanics and engineers.
