Metallica First Rock Band at Vegas Sphere
Metallica announced a residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas, becoming the first hard rock band to play the iconic venue. The run will feature immersive visual experiences and exclusive performances, setting a new standard for rock residencies.
The "Life Burns Faster" residency will consist of eight shows across four weekends in October 2026. Following the format of their M72 World Tour, the band will perform "No Repeat Weekends," meaning the setlists for the Thursday and Saturday shows of each weekend will be completely different. Drummer Lars Ulrich was inspired to book the venue after attending the opening night of U2's residency in 2023. He stated, "About 12 seconds into the opening night of Sphere with U2 back in '23, I thought 'We have to do this, it's completely uncharted territory!'" While other rock acts like U2, Phish, Dead & Company, and the Eagles have played the Sphere, Metallica marks the first heavy metal band to secure a residency at the high-tech venue. The venue, which cost $2.3 billion to build, features a 16K resolution wraparound interior LED screen and an advanced audio system with beamforming technology to deliver clear, precise sound to every seat. The experience is enhanced by multi-sensory 4D technology, including haptic and environmental effects. The residency will feature custom visual content designed specifically for the Sphere's immersive capabilities, promising a unique experience even for fans who have seen the band multiple times. Bassist Robert Trujillo has noted the visual possibilities for songs like "Orion," calling the residency "a dream come true." Tickets for the residency go on sale to the general public on March 6, with several pre-sales available for fan club members and others starting as early as February 27. Enhanced experiences and travel packages are also being offered, including a "Full House" pass for all eight shows.
