The Testaments Trailer Drops
*The Testaments* — adapted from Margaret Atwood's acclaimed novel — just dropped its trailer, providing subtle clues about how the series will reinterpret the dystopian source material. The adaptation promises to bring Atwood's Handmaid's Tale sequel to life with careful attention to the book's themes.
*The Testaments* is set to premiere on Hulu with its first three episodes on April 8, 2026. The series serves as a sequel to *The Handmaid's Tale* and is based on Margaret Atwood's 2019 novel of the same name. The new series is a co-production of MGM Television and 20th Television. The narrative picks up years after the events of *The Handmaid's Tale*, revolving around three central female characters. Ann Dowd will reprise her role as the formidable Aunt Lydia. Newcomers Chase Infiniti and Lucy Halliday will portray Agnes, a young woman raised in Gilead, and Daisy, a young woman living in Canada, respectively. Bruce Miller, the creator and showrunner for *The Handmaid's Tale*, stepped down from his role on the original series to focus on developing *The Testaments*. *The Handmaid's Tale* star Elisabeth Moss joins the project as an executive producer, alongside Miller and others. Atwood's novel, which won the Booker Prize in 2019, is narrated by Aunt Lydia, Agnes, and Daisy. The plot follows Agnes and Daisy, who are half-sisters, on a mission to smuggle information out of Gilead that could lead to its downfall, with Aunt Lydia secretly aiding their efforts. The television adaptation will be set approximately four to five years after the conclusion of *The Handmaid's Tale* series, a shorter time frame than the 15-year gap in the book. This new generation of young women in Gilead will grapple with a future they have only ever known through indoctrination.
