Esports season updates

THE FINALS revealed its 2026 global esports season structure while PUBG’s EMEA Championship Playoffs kicked off with a revised format and the fighting‑game calendar stacked events like Evo Japan, Red Bull Knockout and Combo Breaker over the next two months. THE FINALS has laid out a 2026 esports season with open online qualifiers in three regions and a world championship at DreamHack Stockholm in November. (dreamhack.com) Embark Studios said on April 16 that the TGM26 Online Series will run across the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Africa, and Asia-Pacific, with sign-ups handled through FACEIT. The season carries a $200,000 total prize pool, and The Grand Major 2026 will bring 16 teams to Stockholm from November 27 to 29 for a $150,000 final. (dreamhack.com) The structure is broader than last year’s debut push: Embark said more than 1,600 teams competed globally in the first Major cycle, and the 2026 season will stretch across four competitive cycles before the live final. The first matches begin in May, with Asia-Pacific scheduled to start on May 30. (dreamhack.com) PUBG’s Europe, Middle East and Africa circuit is moving at the same time, but with a more compressed playoff system. PUBG Esports said the Spring championship’s first playoff stage runs April 17 to 19, followed by Grand Finals on April 24 to 26, then a second playoff stage on May 1 to 3 and another finals weekend on May 8 to 10. (pubgesports.com) That playoff format now resets the leaderboard at the end of each day, instead of carrying one table straight through. In Playoffs 1, the top eight teams from Day 1 qualify directly to finals, the top five from Day 2 qualify next, and the top three from Day 3 take the last spots. (pubgesports.com) Fighting games are crowding the same calendar. Evo Japan 2026 is set for May 1 to 3 at Tokyo Big Sight, Red Bull Knockout for Riot’s 2XKO is scheduled for May 16 in Paris, and Combo Breaker returns May 22 to 24 in the Chicago area. (evojapan.gg) (2xko.riotgames.com) (combobreaker.org) Red Bull Knockout also marks a format shift inside the fighting-game scene. Riot and Red Bull said the one-day Paris event is a duos-only 2v2 tournament with seven invited national teams and one team coming through a 64-team last-chance qualifier, and Riot said it is intended to take over from Red Bull Kumite. (2xko.riotgames.com) (redbull.com) Distribution is shifting too. ESL FACEIT Group said on April 14 that it entered a long-term partnership with Kick for Counter-Strike and Dota 2, with Kick becoming the exclusive platform for ESL Challenger League as the companies expand distribution together. (eslfaceitgroup.com) That leaves the next six weeks unusually dense across shooters, battle royale and fighting games: online qualification in THE FINALS, daily-reset playoffs in PUBG, and three major fighting-game stops before the end of May.
