Heavy Equipment Sets Load-Out Record
Mammoet set a load-out record at Khalifa Port, showcasing advances in heavy equipment logistics for complex operations. Saskatchewan drivers are being warned about traffic delays due to a house being moved on highways.
The record-setting operation at Khalifa Port involved the load-out of 24 Pre-Assembled Unit (PAU) and Pre-Assembled Rack (PAR) modules destined for a major gas development project. The heaviest component, a process gas cooling module, weighed in at a massive 2,464 tonnes and measured 38 meters long, 23 meters wide, and 32 meters high. To manage the immense scale of the modules, Mammoet deployed 120 axle lines of Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs). These specialized vehicles transported the structures approximately 2.5 kilometers from the fabrication yard to the quayside, marking the largest outward shipment in the history of the Abu Dhabi port. The operation also required infrastructure adjustments to handle the oversized cargo. The house being moved in Saskatchewan is a large log building, with its widest piece spanning 60 feet. The entire journey from the Lajord area to a site near Strasbourg covers almost 200 kilometers and is scheduled to take four days to complete. The move also includes a separate garage. This complex logistical feat required 13 months of planning. The multi-day trip will impact several highways, including Highways 1, 6, 10, 22, 33, and 48, with planned closures and detours, particularly affecting traffic on Highway 6 through the Qu'Appelle Valley. The freight will be parked off the road at night to minimize disruption.
