Solana Validator Network Expands in Asia-Pacific
A Pantera Capital-backed firm has launched the "Pacific Backbone" initiative to build out Solana's staking and validator infrastructure in Asia. The network will connect nodes in Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore, and Hong Kong to provide low-latency coverage for DeFi and high-frequency trading in the region.
The firm behind the initiative, Solana Company (NASDAQ: HSDT), is a publicly traded digital asset treasury created in partnership with Pantera Capital and Summer Capital. It pivoted from a biotech firm, formerly Helius Medical Technologies, to focus on accumulating SOL and supporting the Solana ecosystem. The company holds over 2.2 million SOL, making it one of the largest publicly listed holders of the asset. This "Pacific Backbone" is a dedicated, private fiber optic network designed to reduce latency for financial applications. The project's immediate goal is to cater to the needs of market makers and high-frequency traders by activating a series of smaller, secure nodes before scaling up with state-of-the-art hardware. The full performance optimization and adoption of new technologies are slated for the second half of 2026. The strategic focus on Asia is driven by the region's high concentration of crypto users, accounting for approximately 60% of the global total. Despite this, there's a recognized gap in high-performance infrastructure for Solana in the area. This initiative aims to directly address that gap, reducing reliance on third-party providers and meeting the compliance needs of regulated financial institutions. Beyond core infrastructure, Solana Company plans to launch a suite of liquidity-related products and services within the next 12 to 18 months. These offerings will include DeFi tools, liquid staking, automated market makers (AMMs), and RPC services tailored for traditional finance partners looking to enter the Solana ecosystem. This aligns with a broader trend of institutional interest in Solana, fueled by its high throughput and low transaction costs.
