Houston’s independent bookstores are turning Saturday, April 25, into a citywide shopping day, with special releases, store events and a monthlong crawl tied to Indie Bookstore Day. (bluewillowbookshop.com) Blue Willow Bookshop says the 2026 Houston Indie Bookstore Crawl includes 31 Houston-area indie bookshops, up from 25 last year, and runs from April 1 through April 30. Shoppers can pick up a crawl card, collect stamps at each store and enter a raffle after visiting 15 stores. (bluewillowbookshop.com) The crawl’s participating list spans neighborhood shops and specialty sellers, including Blue Willow Bookshop, Brazos Bookstore, Kindred Stories, Murder By The Book, Village Books and several mobile stores. Blue Willow’s page says 28 of the 31 participants are brick-and-mortar locations. (bluewillowbookshop.com) At Brazos Bookstore in West University, the April 25 program runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and includes a Cavo coffee pop-up, a 10:30 a.m. story time with local author Sanyu, Houston Social Beer Garden beer samples starting at noon, and giveaways through the day. (brazosbookstore.com) At Blue Willow, the store says April 25 will include Indie Bookstore Day celebrations and special birthday stickers as the shop heads toward its 30th anniversary this fall. Blue Willow says it has served Houston since 1996. (bluewillowbookshop.com 1) (bluewillowbookshop.com 2) The day lands in a broader Houston push to route book buyers toward local stores instead of a single national chain or online seller. 365 Things to Do in Houston’s April listings also point readers to a separate Houston Bookstore Crawl and other bookstore events across the month. (365thingsinhouston.com) Houston’s participating stores also reflect how segmented the local market has become. Kindred Stories, for example, describes itself as a Houston bookstore centered on Black authors and artisans, while Murder By The Book focuses on mystery and crime fiction and lists its shop near Rice University and the Texas Medical Center. (kindredstorieshtx.com) (murderbooks.com) For shoppers planning a route, Blue Willow says stamped crawl cards must be turned in by the close of business on Thursday, April 30, and posts a digital map and store list online. Saturday’s bookstore traffic is the centerpiece, but the crawl gives Houston readers the rest of the month to keep going. (bluewillowbookshop.com)
