SXSW 2026 Film Fest Highlights

Boots Riley's "I Love Boosters" is opening the festival, centering on a crew of shoplifters targeting a fashion maven. The film stars Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie, Taylour Paige, Poppy Liu, Eiza Gonzalez, LaKeith Stanfield, Don Cheadle, and Demi Moore. Riley's previous work includes "Sorry to Bother You" (2018) and the series "I'm a Virgo" (2023). #WhileBlack, directed by WIRED journalist Sidney Fussell and Jennifer Holness, examines the impact of viral footage on those who film Black trauma. The documentary features Darnella Frazier, who filmed George Floyd's murder, and Diamond Reynolds, who livestreamed the killing of Philando Castile. It explores how social media platforms profit from these videos, while the witnesses face lasting consequences. SXSW 2026 marks the festival's 40th anniversary. The Film & TV Festival runs from March 12-18. This year's festival includes film, TV, music, and technology events.
