Healthcare AI Startups Raise Over $41M
A wave of funding is hitting the healthcare AI sector, focused on automating clinical workflows. TERN Group raised $33M to build a clinical AI workforce platform for the Gulf region, while UnityAI secured $8.5M for autonomous AI in U.S. healthcare operations. The deals highlight intense demand for agentic AI in the medical field.
Agentic AI, the technology underpinning these deals, represents a shift from predictive models to autonomous systems. These AI agents can independently plan, reason, and execute complex, multi-step tasks with minimal human input, aiming to reduce the cognitive load on healthcare professionals. Nashville-based UnityAI's "digital workforce" is a direct application of this, automating hospital back-office functions. With its total funding now at $15 million, its AI agents handle over 300,000 patient interactions a month, tackling tasks like appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and staffing coordination. For one national provider, UnityAI's system cut patient no-show rates by 30%. TERN Group, founded in 2023, uses its AI platform to address the global healthcare talent shortage, which the WHO projects will reach 18 million workers by 2030. The company’s system focuses on the logistics of talent mobility, sourcing and relocating professionals from 13 countries to markets like the UK, Germany, and the UAE. By automating credentialing, training, and onboarding, TERN's platform reduces international hiring timelines from over six months to less than ten weeks. The company already serves more than 100 global healthcare clients, including 18 trusts within the UK's National Health Service (NHS). This investment surge reflects a market-wide pivot. In 2025, AI-enabled companies attracted more than half of all health tech venture capital funding, a significant increase from 37% in 2024.
