Friday Hip-Hop Releases Drop
Friday brought major hip-hop drops including Nettspend's *Early Life Crisis* featuring NBA YoungBoy & Osamason, and Denzel Curry & The Scythe's *Strictly 4 The Scythe* with Smino, Juicy J, and Luh Tyler. Ty Dolla $ign also released *Girl Music Vol. 1* while Juice WRLD & Marshmello dropped "We Don't Get Along."
Nettspend's 21-track project, *Early Life Crisis*, serves as his official debut studio album, following his breakout mixtape *Bad Ass F*cking Kid*. The album sees the Richmond, Virginia rapper delve into themes of anxiety and the pressures of sudden fame, reflecting the turbulence of Gen-Z adulthood. His sound is rooted in hip-hop subgenres like trap and jerk, often featuring distorted 808s and shimmering synths. *Strictly 4 The Scythe* marks the inaugural release from the new hip-hop collective The Scythe, founded by Denzel Curry. The group's lineup includes Curry alongside A$AP Ferg, Bktherula, TiaCorine, and Key Nyata. The eight-track album is a nod to gritty Southern rap traditions, blended with a modern underground energy that echoes Curry's roots in the Raider Klan. Ty Dolla $ign's *Girl Music Vol. 1* is a six-track EP that signals a deliberate return to his R&B-focused origins. The concept for the project was sparked during a dinner in New York City, aiming to create music that specifically resonates with female listeners. The EP features collaborations that span different generations of R&B, including an appearance from the legendary Ronald Isley on the opening track and another from Brandy. The posthumous Juice WRLD track, "We Don't Get Along," continues his history of successful collaborations with producer Marshmello, which includes the multi-platinum hit "Come & Go". The new single explores themes of internal conflict and difficult relationships, showcasing the late artist's signature melodic vulnerability. An accompanying music video was also released, utilizing archival footage and visual effects to honor Juice WRLD's memory.
