Rwanda and Canada Plan 2026 Healthtech Summit
Rwanda and Canada are collaborating on a healthtech summit (AHTS 2026) to be held in Toronto. The partnership will focus on AI, digital health, and building resilient health systems, highlighting the growing trend of international cooperation in the health technology sector.
This collaboration builds on the momentum of previous Africa HealthTech Summits, which have focused on scaling innovation beyond the pilot stage to achieve Universal Health Coverage. The 2025 AHTS in Kigali centered on using connected technologies to strengthen primary care and improve health system integration across the continent. The global digital health market is projected to grow from $491.62 billion in 2026 to over $2.3 trillion by 2034, exhibiting a compound annual growth rate of 21.60%. North America currently dominates the market, making Toronto a strategic gateway for international partnerships. For consumer health startups, AI-powered personalization is moving from a novelty to a core requirement. AI algorithms analyzing wearable data can improve medication adherence, provide real-time coaching for chronic conditions, and detect early signs of health risks like atrial fibrillation. Integrating with wearable APIs from Apple, Garmin, and Fitbit is a critical but complex task for developers.
