Tarantino Plans West End Debut

Quentin Tarantino's play, "The Popinjay Cavalier," a comedy set in 1830s Europe, will debut in London's West End in 2027 [https://variety.com/2026/theater/global/quentin-tarantino-play-title-popinjay-cavalier-2027-west-end-debut-1236684451].

Tarantino's "The Popinjay Cavalier" is described as a "rambunctious comedy of deception and disguise inspired by the grand swashbuckling epics of stage and screen". Sonia Friedman Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment are producing the play. Tarantino has stated he chose theater because film audiences are no longer attentive enough. He said that in the theater, "You own the audience for the duration of the play every night". He mentioned last year that the play was completely written and London would be the premiere location, not Broadway. Tarantino also said that if the play is successful in London, it could potentially tour. Tarantino plans to relocate to the UK with his family while developing the production, estimating it will take 18-24 months. The play will not be based on any of Tarantino's existing films.
