Arkansas' mountain biking scene has exploded in recent years, becoming a major tourism driver and contributing billions to the state's GDP. In 2023, outdoor recreation accounted for $7.3 billion to Arkansas' GDP and supported 68,000 jobs. The state's investment in trail infrastructure has fueled this growth, attracting adventure-seeking tourists and improving the quality of life for residents. Slaughter Pen, located in Bentonville, is a network of over 30 miles of trails that started in 2013. It offers a unique urban mountain biking experience with trails for all skill levels, and features like the Castle hub and the Masterpiece trail. The trails are located near Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and connect to the Razorback Regional Greenway. The Womble Trail, in the Ouachita National Forest, stretches over 37 miles. It's considered one of the best single-track trails in the area and was designated an IMBA Epic trail. Originally built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Womble follows historic routes and offers scenic views of the Ouachita River. Voting in the Arkansas March Mountain Bike Madness competition provides a platform to celebrate these trails and the communities that support them. Northwest Arkansas has become a hub for mountain bikers, attracting over 90,000 visitors annually and generating millions in tourism revenue. The region's commitment to cycling infrastructure has also led to increased property values and improved health outcomes for residents.
