OpenAI adds production controls to Sora

OpenAI updated Sora’s help docs to give users explicit production controls such as setting duration, starting from text or an image, and using Remix on existing Sora posts. The docs also show prompts can specify ambient audio cues like “natural café audio,” which treats sound as a controllable production variable rather than an afterthought. (help.openai.com)

OpenAI has updated Sora’s help docs to spell out video controls that were previously scattered across the product, including duration, image-to-video, and remixing posts in the app feed. (help.openai.com) The current help page says users can start with a text prompt or upload an image, then edit the result by trimming, reordering, stitching, extending, reprompting, remixing, or regenerating clips. It also says published videos can go to the public Sora feed or direct messages. (help.openai.com) A separate OpenAI help page says Sora lets users change aspect ratio, resolution, duration, and the number of variations before generation, and that a job can take up to about a minute. OpenAI’s getting-started guide describes the default output as a 10-second vertical video with synchronized audio. (help.openai.com, help.openai.com) The same documentation now treats sound as part of the prompt, not a separate finishing step. OpenAI’s public Sora page says the product generates “motion and sound,” and the help docs include prompt patterns that specify audio conditions alongside visuals. (openai.com, help.openai.com) That lines up with OpenAI’s broader shift from Sora as a text-to-video demo to Sora as an editing app. In release notes published March 19, 2026, OpenAI said Sora on iOS and web now includes an editor with frame-level trimming, clip stitching, reordering, extensions, reprompting, and remixing. (help.openai.com) The documentation also shows OpenAI tightening the connection between creation and social reuse. The getting-started guide says users can remix an existing post with “clear remix labeling,” and the image tools page says still images can be turned directly into videos. (help.openai.com, help.openai.com) OpenAI is making those changes while retiring older Sora workflows. A help-center notice says Sora 1 was shut off in the United States on March 13, 2026, and the main video-creation guide says the “Sora 1 web experience” is being deprecated as OpenAI points customers toward Sora for Business. (help.openai.com, help.openai.com) Sora remains tied to OpenAI’s subscription stack rather than a standalone consumer price. OpenAI’s product page says ChatGPT Plus includes Sora at no extra cost with monthly limits, while Pro offers more usage, higher resolutions, and longer durations. (openai.com) The result is a product that looks less like a one-shot video generator and more like a lightweight production studio inside OpenAI’s app. The new docs do not announce a new model, but they make the workflow around Sora 2 much more explicit.
