American Bitcoin Expands Mining Fleet

American Bitcoin is significantly increasing its mining power, announcing the addition of 11,298 new ASIC miners. The expansion is expected to boost the company's total capacity by 12%, or about 3.05 EH/s. This move reinforces the company's strategy after it reported mining Bitcoin at a 53% discount to spot prices in Q4 2025.

This latest acquisition brings American Bitcoin's total owned fleet to 89,242 miners. Once the new hardware is fully operational, the company's total capacity will be approximately 28.1 exahashes per second (EH/s). The new machines are slated for deployment in March 2026 at the company's Drumheller site. The newly purchased miners boast an efficiency of 13.5 joules per terahash (J/TH), a key metric in an industry where profitability is tightly linked to energy consumption. This addition is expected to improve the overall efficiency of American Bitcoin's operational fleet. This expansion reinforces the company's dual-pronged strategy of accumulating Bitcoin through both mining and direct market purchases. Co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer Eric Trump has emphasized the goal of growing American-owned and professionally operated hashrate to protect the network and foster innovation. American Bitcoin, which operates as a majority-owned subsidiary of Hut 8, went public on the Nasdaq in September 2025 through a merger with Gryphon Digital Mining. The company's recent financial reports for Q4 2025 showed a net loss, largely attributed to non-cash mark-to-market adjustments on its significant Bitcoin holdings. Despite this, the company's Bitcoin reserves have continued to grow, surpassing 6,000 BTC.
