Hytale knock‑off hits Switch 2

An apparent Hytale knock‑off RPG showed up on Nintendo Switch 2 and Hypixel Studios is reportedly considering legal action, while Hypixel has no official Switch 2 plans for Hytale. (gosugamers.net)

A game called Hytale: Sandbox RPG appeared on Nintendo’s eShop on April 10, but Hypixel Studios says it is not the real Hytale and its legal team is involved. (gosugamers.net) Hypixel Studios founder Simon Collins-Laflamme said on X that the situation is “being handled by the legal team,” according to reports from IGN and Nintendo Life. Both outlets said the Switch release uses a near-identical name and closely resembles Hytale’s official key art. (ign.com) (nintendolife.com) The eShop listing identified the publisher as RoVi Ninen and priced the game at $4.99 through April 24, GosuGamers reported. Nintendo Life said the same title was listed at £4.99 in the United Kingdom eShop. (gosugamers.net) (nintendolife.com) The confusion is easier to understand because the real Hytale only entered Early Access on January 13, 2026 and is sold through its official channels on PC and Mac. Hypixel’s FAQ says launch platforms are PC and Mac, with Linux support for servers, not Nintendo hardware. (hytale.com) (hytale.game) That platform gap matters because some players could reasonably assume a cheap eShop listing is a console port of the real game. IGN said one fan posted that they had just bought a Switch 2 and briefly thought Hytale had launched there before any Steam release. (ign.com) Hytale’s release path has already been unusual. Hypixel announced on November 17, 2025 that it had bought the game back from Riot Games after Riot had canceled the project months earlier. (hytale.com) (gamesindustry.biz) Eleven days later, on November 28, 2025, Hypixel set the January 13 launch date and said the founders had revived development using a “four-year-old legacy build” of the game. The studio also said it was committing funding “for many years to come.” (hytale.com) Reports on the Switch listing also point to a wider storefront problem. IGN and Nintendo Life both said RoVi Ninen had been accused before over Coin Pit, a game critics described as mimicking CloverPit. (ign.com) (nintendolife.com) As of the latest reports on April 16, Hypixel had not announced any official Switch 2 version of Hytale. For now, the clearest line is the simplest one: if you see Hytale on Nintendo’s eShop, Hypixel says it is not theirs. (gosugamers.net) (hytale.game)
