Michelin crowns new cities
The 2026 Michelin updates added Detroit to the Michelin Guide and gave Boston six Bib Gourmand recognitions this year. (clickondetroit.com) Internationally, São Paulo gained big honors with Evvai and Tuju earning three Michelin stars—the first three‑star restaurants in Latin America—and Rio’s Madame Olympe picked up an additional star. Detroit is in Michelin’s next United States expansion, and São Paulo now has Latin America’s first three-star restaurants. (guide.michelin.com 1) (guide.michelin.com 2) Michelin said on April 7 that its new American Great Lakes edition will cover six cities: Cleveland, Detroit, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Minneapolis and Pittsburgh. The inaugural restaurant selection is scheduled to be revealed in 2027, not this year. (guide.michelin.com) That means Detroit has been added as a Michelin Guide destination, but no Detroit stars, Bib Gourmands or recommended restaurants have been announced yet. Michelin said its anonymous inspectors are already dining across the region. (guide.michelin.com) Boston is further along in that process. Michelin’s official Boston listings now show six Bib Gourmand restaurants, the guide’s designation for places it says offer good quality and good value cooking. (guide.michelin.com 1) (guide.michelin.com 2) Michelin entered Boston in 2025, and the city’s online guide now includes 26 listed restaurants across stars, Bib Gourmands and other recommended spots. The six Bib Gourmands are concentrated in Boston, Cambridge and Brookline. (guide.michelin.com 1) (guide.michelin.com 2) In Brazil, the bigger change landed on April 13 at the Michelin Guide Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo 2026 ceremony at the Copacabana Palace in Rio. Michelin awarded three stars to Evvai and Tuju, both in São Paulo. (guide.michelin.com) Michelin called Evvai and Tuju the first restaurants in Brazil and all of Latin America to reach three stars. The 2026 Brazil guide still lists 149 selected establishments in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, with 12 new additions this year. (guide.michelin.com) Rio also picked up a change at the star level. Michelin’s 2026 listing for Madame Olympe identifies the restaurant as a one-star selection in Rio de Janeiro. (guide.michelin.com) The common thread is geography. Michelin is widening its map in the United States while raising the ceiling in Brazil, where São Paulo now has the region’s first restaurants at the guide’s top rank. For Brazil, the headline is already set: Michelin’s top tier is no longer limited to Europe, Asia and North America. (guide.michelin.com) (guide.michelin.com)
