Path of Exile Mirage Launches Next Week
Path of Exile: Mirage is set to launch next week, bringing a major Arabian-themed expansion to the action RPG. The update promises new gameplay elements and storylines that deepen the game's complex systems and replayability. This follows the recent trend of major RPG expansions expanding content significantly.
The upcoming "Mirage" expansion is set to introduce one of the most significant overhauls to Path of Exile's endgame in the last decade. The traditional map system is being fundamentally changed; instead of finding specific map items, players will now find tiered maps that can be used to open any discovered location of that tier on their Atlas. This change is aimed at allowing players to more easily target farm their preferred content without the friction of trading for specific maps. The new league mechanic involves entering an "Astral Realm," which is an imperfect and mirrored copy of a section of the current map. Before entering this realm to free a trapped Djinn, players can choose from one of three "Wishes" that will augment the loot or their character's power within the Mirage. This mechanic also duplicates existing league content like Strongboxes, Blight encounters, and Legion monoliths, effectively allowing players to run a portion of their map a second time with added rewards. A new form of currency will be introduced in the form of coins, which can be used to corrupt a level 20 skill gem and permanently imbue it with a random support gem effect. Furthermore, the "Mirage" league will add a new pinnacle boss, Saresh, of the Weeping Black, who can be accessed through a new map fragment found within the Astral Realm. This expansion will also bring a host of new and reworked holy-themed skills, with a particular focus on the Templar class. Skills like Static Strike, Holy Flame Totem, and Dominating Blow are receiving improvements. Additionally, the Guardian Ascendancy class is getting a significant buff, alongside smaller improvements to the Assassin, Saboteur, and Warden. The development of "Mirage" and its sweeping changes are happening concurrently with the early access period for *Path of Exile 2*, which began on December 6, 2024. The sequel is currently slated for a full release in late 2026 and includes a new six-act campaign, new character classes, and a complete overhaul of many core gameplay systems. Some of the endgame changes in "Mirage" appear to be inspired by systems being developed for *Path of Exile 2*. The more directed progression on the new Atlas, for example, echoes some of the design philosophies seen in the sequel's early access, suggesting a continued evolution for the original game even as its successor is on the horizon.
