Longnose gar, *Lepisosteus osseus*, are prehistoric-looking fish with elongated bodies and long, tooth-filled snouts. Their snouts can be twice the length of their heads. They are ray-finned fish known for their armor-like scales. These fish can grow up to 6.5 feet long and live for over 20 years. They are ambush predators that eat primarily fish and can survive in low-oxygen waters by gulping air. Lake Blackshear is an 8,500-acre reservoir on the Flint River in Crisp County, Georgia. It's known for its populations of bass, crappie, bream, and catfish. The lake features cypress flats and flooded timber, offering diverse fishing environments.
