Music on the Steps — Multnomah Library

Portland’s Central Library is turning its front steps into a free lunchtime stage this week, with live music scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, April 24. (multcolib.org) Multnomah County Library says the April series runs Thursdays through Sundays and is open to all ages on the Central Library steps in downtown Portland. (multcolib.org) The library’s April lineup includes eight local acts, from Jay Ringer and Story & Tune to Machado Mijiga, Greta Lau and Jeremy Famà. The library says the performances span jazz, blues, opera and other styles. The same calendar lists another Central Library performance on April 26 featuring Machado Mijiga. The county says the library system includes 19 neighborhood libraries, about 2 million books and other materials, nearly 900 computer search stations and hundreds of events. (multco.us) That makes the Central Library steps a public venue as well as a library entrance: a downtown spot where passersby can stop for a two-hour set without buying a ticket. The library says the concerts are family-friendly and supported in part by gifts to The Library Foundation.
