Yamaha relocates HQ from California to Georgia

Yamaha announced it's moving its Orange County HQ to Georgia after 50 years, citing "structural reforms" and the trend of companies leaving high-tax states.

Yamaha's move from Cypress, California, to Kennesaw, Georgia, will occur in phases, starting at the end of 2026 and concluding by the end of 2028. This relocation includes corporate functions and the company’s Financial Services business. Yamaha has had a presence in Cypress since 1978. The decision is part of Yamaha's "structural reforms" to improve profitability and streamline U.S. operations. Rising costs from U.S. tariffs and a shifting market environment are contributing factors. Yamaha will sell its 25.1-acre California campus as part of the move. Yamaha has been gradually shifting its operations to Georgia for decades. The Marine Business moved to Kennesaw in 1999, followed by the Motorsports Business in 2019. Yamaha already employs over 2,300 Georgians. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp welcomed the move, highlighting the state's business-friendly environment. He noted that this relocation is a testament to what Georgia offers job creators. Kemp and Yamaha executives initially discussed the move at a meeting in Tokyo. Other companies like Tesla, Oracle, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise have also moved headquarters out of California in recent years. This trend is often attributed to high taxes, regulations, and the cost of living in California. States like Texas and Georgia are popular destinations due to their lower costs and more predictable business climates.
