Adobe ships cross‑app assistant
Adobe unveiled a Firefly AI assistant that can act across multiple Creative Cloud apps to complete multi‑step tasks instead of working inside a single product. The assistant is designed to orchestrate workflows across Firefly, Photoshop, Premiere, Lightroom, Express and Illustrator, signalling a move toward cross‑tool orchestration rather than isolated features (techcrunch.com).
Adobe has turned Firefly into a cross-app assistant that can carry out multi-step jobs across Photoshop, Premiere, Lightroom, Illustrator and other Creative Cloud tools from one chat prompt. (news.adobe.com) Adobe announced the Firefly AI Assistant on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, and said it is “available soon” inside the Firefly web app. TechCrunch reported the public beta is due in the coming weeks, and Adobe has not said whether it will cost extra beyond Firefly’s credit-based plans. (news.adobe.com) (techcrunch.com) The product is built to take an outcome like resizing a campaign for several social platforms or editing a product image, then choose and run the steps across multiple Adobe apps. Adobe said users can interrupt the workflow at any point, and TechCrunch reported the interface also exposes buttons and sliders tied to the project on screen. (blog.adobe.com) (techcrunch.com) Adobe has spent the past year putting narrower assistants inside individual products first. Photoshop’s AI Assistant entered public beta on March 10, 2026 for web and mobile, with voice commands, step-by-step guidance and an “AI Markup” tool for drawing where edits should happen. (blog.adobe.com) This release moves that idea up a level. Instead of asking users to know whether a job belongs in Photoshop, Premiere or Express, Adobe is pitching Firefly as a front door that routes work to the right tool behind the scenes. (blog.adobe.com) (news.adobe.com) Adobe is also tying the assistant to a broader Firefly push on April 15. The company said Firefly now offers more than 30 creative artificial intelligence models alongside new video and image editing features such as studio-quality audio cleanup, advanced color controls and precision image adjustments. (news.adobe.com) The assistant did not appear out of nowhere. Adobe previewed the cross-app concept as “Project Moonlight” at Adobe MAX in October 2025, and the company now describes Firefly AI Assistant as the next step after a private beta. (techcrunch.com) (blog.adobe.com) Adobe is making the same argument rivals are making in design software: fewer menus, more automation. TechCrunch said Canva and Figma are also building “agentic” workflows, while Adobe is betting its advantage is the number of established creative apps it can connect through one interface. (techcrunch.com) For Adobe, the immediate test is whether creators trust a chat box to handle work that used to require tool-by-tool control. The company’s answer is to keep the human in the loop while the assistant does the routing. (blog.adobe.com)
