Gushwork Bets on AI Lead Generation

The India-founded startup recently secured $9 million in a seed funding round co-led by Susquehanna International Group (SIG) and Lightspeed. This investment brings Gushwork's total funding to $11 million and boosts its post-money valuation to $33 million, a significant increase from the $7.5 million valuation it held in July 2023. Founded in 2023 by Nayrhit Bhattacharya and Adithya Venkatesh, the company initially focused on outsourcing business workflows using a combination of AI and human support. Gushwork later pivoted to search-focused marketing after observing a strong demand from clients for improved online visibility. The platform's strategy is to help businesses get discovered and cited on AI search engines like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity, not just traditional search. It uses a network of AI agents to automatically generate search-optimized content, build 10 to 20 backlinks per client, and monitor inbound leads. This approach is being called "Answer Engine Optimization" (AEO). Since launching its AI search-focused product, Gushwork has grown to over 300 paying customers, with approximately 95% based in the United States. This has generated $1.5 million in annualized recurring revenue (ARR) with the company reporting 50% to 80% month-over-month growth. Clients subscribe to the service with plans starting at $800 per month. According to the company, 80% of its customers see a 500% increase in website impressions and a 50% rise in inbound leads within 60 days of using the platform. With the new capital, Gushwork plans to expand its engineering team, improve the accuracy of its AI models, and scale its go-to-market operations. The company currently has a waitlist of over 800 businesses to onboard.
