Conversational BI shift
- Analytics teams are moving away from static dashboards toward conversational AI that answers questions in plain English. Business intelligence teams are shifting from dashboards you click through to chat-style tools that answer data questions in plain English. (oracle.com) Oracle’s current analytics documentation says its AI Agents let users add custom instructions and company knowledge so the Oracle Analytics AI Assistant can answer natural-language questions with “more meaningful, context-aware insights.” Oracle’s March 2026 product update also added AI Data Agents and a more conversational assistant experience. (oracle.com 1) (oracle.com 2) Bold BI is pitching the same change from another angle. Its AI analytics page says users can “ask questions in plain language,” get visuals, and have the system highlight trends, anomalies, and performance metrics from existing dashboards. (boldbi.com) That puts the software closer to a search box than a control panel. Instead of opening a report, setting filters, and scanning charts, a manager can type a question and get a summary or a chart back. (boldbi.com) (learn.microsoft.com) The shift is showing up across the larger business intelligence market. Microsoft said in December 2025 that it will deprecate Power BI Q&A in December 2026 and steer users to Copilot for Power BI, which it called a more advanced natural-language way to query data. (powerbi.microsoft.com) Tableau has already retired its older Ask Data feature in Tableau Cloud and Tableau Server, saying newer natural-language technology is shaping a replacement tied to Tableau AI and Tableau Pulse. (help.tableau.com) Analyst firms are describing the same move in broader terms. Gartner said on June 18, 2025 that 75% of new analytics content will be contextualized through generative artificial intelligence by 2027, linking insights more directly to applications and actions. (gartner.com) Dashboards are not disappearing from these products. Bold BI still centers its assistant on existing dashboards, and Oracle still sells a full analytics platform with reports, models, and governed data alongside the chat layer. (boldbi.com) (oracle.com) What is changing is the front door. In 2026, the fastest path to an answer in business intelligence is increasingly a typed question, and vendors are rebuilding older reporting tools around that habit.
