OpenAI Raises Historic $110 Billion
OpenAI has closed a massive $110 billion funding round, one of the largest private capital raises ever. The round, led by Amazon, Nvidia, and SoftBank, catapults the company's valuation to $730 billion. OpenAI plans to use the capital to “scale AI for everyone,” signaling a major push for mass adoption of its generative models and infrastructure.
This funding round more than doubles the previous record for a private tech deal, which was OpenAI's own $40 billion raise in 2025. The new capital is split between Amazon ($50 billion), Nvidia ($30 billion), and SoftBank ($30 billion). The investments are not just financial but also deeply strategic. The deal includes a multi-year collaboration with Amazon Web Services and secures access to Nvidia's next-generation "Vera Rubin" GPU architecture, crucial for training and running advanced AI models. OpenAI's previous major valuation was set in October 2025 through a share sale that valued the company at $500 billion. This new round elevates the post-money valuation to $840 billion, placing it among the most valuable technology companies in the world while still being privately held. Long-time partner Microsoft, which invested its first $1 billion in 2019, maintains its significant stake and exclusive IP rights. In a joint statement, the companies confirmed their partnership remains "strong and central," and that collaborations with competitors like Amazon were anticipated in their original agreements. The new valuation significantly impacts OpenAI's original non-profit parent organization. The OpenAI Foundation's stake in the for-profit entity is now valued at over $180 billion, massively increasing its resources for philanthropic projects.
