Duke's Malibu has faced numerous challenges in recent years, including the Palisades Fire and subsequent mudslides that forced closures and extensive renovations. The restaurant was initially closed on January 7, 2025, the same day the Palisades Fire began. Despite the setbacks, the restaurant is making a comeback, with a limited reopening planned for March 13, 2026. The reopening was delayed several times due to construction delays related to weather and unforeseen circumstances. The location of Duke's Malibu has a rich history, dating back to 1915 when it was a seafood restaurant called the Las Flores Inn. In 1996, Duke's Malibu opened at its current location on Pacific Coast Highway, honoring surfer Duke Kahanamoku.
