Demand for LATAM Developers Rises

The demand for software engineers from Latin America is steadily increasing among North American tech companies. Key drivers include time-zone alignment for real-time collaboration, cost efficiency, and strong English proficiency, making LATAM a competitive alternative to the tight Bay Area talent market.

The Latin American software market is projected to expand significantly, with a compound annual growth rate of 12.1% pushing its total revenue to an expected $79.6 billion by 2030. The custom software development segment is growing even faster, with a projected CAGR of 23.6% between 2025 and 2030. This expansion is supported by a deep talent pool of approximately 2 million software developers across the region. Brazil contributes the largest share with over 500,000 developers, while Mexico's tech industry is bolstered by an estimated 85,000 new tech graduates entering the workforce annually. Demand is highest for specialized skills in AI and machine learning, with investment in Latin American AI expected to exceed $6.7 billion by 2026. Cloud and DevOps engineers are also critical, as the region's public cloud sector is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 14.3% to reach $29.2 billion by 2030. Venture capital investment in the region's tech sector stabilized at approximately $3.6 to $4 billion in 2023 and 2024, following a peak of $16 billion in 2021. Fintech remains the dominant sector, attracting 46% of all VC investment in 2023, and the region is now home to more than 60 unicorn startups valued at over $1 billion. Key tech hubs offer distinct advantages: Brazil provides a massive volume of talent, while countries like Argentina are recognized for high English proficiency and a mature startup ecosystem. Colombia is also rapidly emerging as a major center for IT solutions, with its market value reaching $10.2 billion in 2021. The primary driver for U.S. companies is often significant cost efficiency, with some reports indicating potential labor cost reductions of up to 60% compared to domestic hiring. Senior remote developers in Latin America typically command salaries ranging from $72,000 to $108,000 annually.
