Michelin chef brings healthy food to Bay Area

Michelin-level chef Matt McNamara is expanding his farm-driven fast-casual concept, Pretty Good Advice, to the Bay Area.

McNamara's Pretty Good Advice (PGA) opened its San Jose location on March 11, 2026. The San Jose location is at 125 Paseo de San Antonio. McNamara owns an 83-acre farm in the Santa Cruz Mountains that provides produce for PGA. The farm grows 250 varieties of fruit trees, including 35 types of citrus, and even tropical plants like pineapple, guava, and passionfruit. The menu is vegetarian with many vegan options, emphasizing seasonal and local ingredients. PGA's menu includes breakfast sandwiches, burgers, salads, and sides. Some popular menu items are the Spicy Boy breakfast sandwich, house-cut fries and the PGA chopped salad. McNamara aims to create food that is accessible and caters to various dietary needs. Prior to PGA, McNamara co-founded Sons & Daughters in San Francisco, which earned a Michelin star. He shifted from fine dining to fast-casual to make high-quality, seasonal food more accessible. PGA has two other locations in Santa Cruz County: Soquel and downtown Santa Cruz.
