Apple reportedly buys Cosmere
Apple TV is reported to have struck a deal with Brandon Sanderson to adapt his Cosmere universe—including Mistborn, The Stormlight Archive, Hoid’s Travails and standalone works—bringing multiple series under one adaptation plan (cbr.com). Fans are already digging deep into the lore while sharing guides and infographics about Roshar’s Knights Radiant, potencias (powers) and sprens (spirits), showing active community preparation for big-screen and TV adaptations (x.com).
Apple is reportedly moving ahead with Brandon Sanderson adaptations, with a first *Mistborn* screenplay already more than halfway written. (hollywoodreporter.com) The Hollywood Reporter reported on February 3 that Apple beat multiple bidders and gave Sanderson unusual control: he said he will write, produce, consult and approve casting. (hollywoodreporter.com) The current plan is a *Mistborn* feature film and a *Stormlight Archive* streaming series, though Sanderson said that format could still change during development. TheWrap reported both projects were in early development on January 28, with Blue Marble Pictures attached to produce. (thewrap.com; hollywoodreporter.com) One important caveat: several early writeups said Apple had bought Sanderson’s entire shared universe, but Reactor later corrected its report after hearing from Sanderson’s agent. Reactor said Apple had acquired adaptation rights to *Mistborn* and *The Stormlight Archive* books, not the full Cosmere catalog. (reactormag.com) That distinction matters because the Cosmere is not one series. It is a linked fantasy setting that spans *Mistborn*, *The Stormlight Archive*, *Elantris*, *Warbreaker* and other books that share hidden history, recurring figures and separate magic systems. (thewrap.com) Sanderson’s audience is already large enough to make the adaptation push notable on its own. TheWrap reported his books have sold more than 50 million copies, and Polygon reported he had spent years waiting for what he saw as a more stable streaming market before agreeing to an adaptation deal. (thewrap.com; polygon.com) Sanderson has also started showing visible progress on the project in public. His official site currently lists “Mistborn Screenplay” at 55 percent, alongside book projects including *Ghostbloods Book 1*, which the site lists at 100 percent. (brandonsanderson.com) He has cautioned fans not to expect a near-term release. On February 3, he said “there’s nobody attached right now” and that the projects were not coming in 2026, even as he said he was confident the deal would move forward. (hollywoodreporter.com) For now, the clearest picture is narrower than the biggest rumors: Apple appears to have a real Sanderson adaptation pipeline, *Mistborn* is the furthest along, and the broader Cosmere rollout still depends on what gets made first.
