Tampa Bay Accelerator Hosts Alumni Event
The Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce is hosting a kickoff event tonight for alumni of its business accelerator program. The networking event is taking place from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Embarc Collective, a local hub for startups.
The Tampa Bay Business Accelerator, a program of the Tampa Bay Chamber Foundation, is designed to foster the growth of small businesses in the region. The program focuses on helping companies overcome challenges such as limited access to capital and key decision-makers. As of the first quarter of 2025, the accelerator has supported 48 companies, which have collectively created over 905 new jobs and generated more than $105.5 million in gross sales. The accelerator's curriculum is a two-year immersive experience. The first year is the most intensive, requiring a commitment of 16 to 25 hours per month in programming activities. The second year is less demanding, with an expected engagement of about eight hours per month. The program continues to track the progress of its alumni for an additional three years after completion. Tonight's event is hosted at Embarc Collective, a central hub for Tampa's startup community. This non-profit organization provides support to more than 125 early-stage startups through coaching, community, and access to investors. Startups supported by Embarc Collective have a 96% survival rate, nearly double the national average. Embarc Collective is not an accelerator or an incubator in the traditional sense, but rather a support model tailored to the specific needs of each startup. The 32,000-square-foot facility in downtown Tampa serves as a landing zone for the region's startup activity and hosts over 200 public events on entrepreneurship and technology annually. While the Business Accelerator supports a wide range of local businesses, the broader Tampa Bay region is a growing hub for technology startups. The area is home to a number of companies in the sports tech and gaming industries. This includes Venuetize, a company that develops mobile technology for the sports and entertainment industries. The local startup ecosystem is further bolstered by organizations like Tampa Bay Wave, which has supported over 600 startups that have collectively raised more than $1.1 billion and created over 6,000 jobs. Tampa Bay Wave also runs specialized accelerator programs, including a Tech|X Accelerator that supports companies in high-growth sectors like artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. The region's focus on innovation is also supported by strategic partnerships, such as the collaboration between Embarc Collective and Tampa General Hospital to create pathways for health-tech startups. This collaborative environment contributes to Tampa Bay's reputation as an emerging technology hub.
