BTS’s Jin on 'Loser'

Jin of BTS discussed his new solo track 'Loser' in a Rolling Stone video released April 15, saying he’s drawn to rock‑adjacent sounds as he explores solo material. (x.com).

Jin said he pushed his solo song “Loser” further toward a louder, rock-leaning sound as he shaped the track with singer Choi Yena. (rollingstone.com) In Rolling Stone’s video and Q&A published April 15, Jin said he “tend[s] to like rock-adjacent genres” and made “more requests than usual” while working on the song. He said early versions “didn’t sound as intense,” so he asked for more shouting and sound changes. (rollingstone.com) Jin also said he wanted “Loser” to carry a younger vibe. In the same interview, he noted that he is 35 in the traditional Korean age system and 33 by international count. (rollingstone.com) The comments land as Rolling Stone rolls out a BTS package for its May 2026 issue. The magazine said the project includes eight print covers, one group cover and seven solo covers, plus video interviews released through April 20. (rollingstone.com) Jin’s remarks also fit the sound of his recent solo releases. Rolling Stone reported in April 2025 that his second solo record, *Echo*, was built on “dynamic band sounds,” and Big Hit Music described his 2024 EP *Happy* as six tracks “all grounded in a band sound.” (rollingstone.com) (weverse.io) That band-first approach has been part of Jin’s solo run since after his military discharge. Rolling Stone said *Happy* arrived on November 15, 2024, and *Echo* followed on May 16, 2025. (rollingstone.com) (weverse.io) The interview also arrives during BTS’s group return. Rolling Stone reported in January that BTS’s comeback world tour began in Goyang, South Korea, on April 9, 2026, and runs through March 2027. (rollingstone.com) Jin told Rolling Stone that his “biggest dream” is still touring with BTS. His explanation of “Loser” places his solo work inside that larger comeback moment, with rock textures still central to how he wants to sound on his own. (rollingstone.com)
