Sanrio mochi sweets

Sanrio characters are inspiring a line of mochi‑puni textured Japanese sweets in character flavors — for example, Pom Pom Prin’s custard and Kuromi’s chocolate — offered across seven character expressions. The social posts announcing the treats have pulled thousands of likes as fans react to the tactile, character‑led flavors. (x.com)

Sanrio characters are showing up in Japan’s refrigerated dessert cases as mochi sweets, with Bandai launching two “Tabemasu Mocchi” packs at FamilyMart on April 14. (bandai.co.jp) The lineup comes in two two-piece sets priced at 378 yen each: Pompompurin with Pochacco, and Cinnamoroll with Kuromi. Bandai said the sweets are being sold in the chilled sweets section at about 16,400 FamilyMart stores, excluding some locations. (atpress.ne.jp) Each character has seven facial expressions, which gives each pair 49 possible combinations on shelf. The fillings also change by character: custard for Pompompurin, milk for Pochacco, milk tea for Cinnamoroll, and chocolate for Kuromi. (atpress.ne.jp) “Tabemasu” is Bandai’s line of character wagashi, or Japanese sweets, made from ingredients such as bean paste, sugar, and glutinous rice flour. The “Mocchi” sub-line wraps filling inside a soft mochi-style dough instead of shaping firmer nerikiri-style confectionery. (atpress.ne.jp) The 2026 Sanrio release keeps a format Bandai has used before, but swaps in a new pairing for Pompompurin by matching him with Pochacco this year. In 2024, the company sold a Pompompurin and Hangyodon set alongside Cinnamoroll and Kuromi. (atpress.ne.jp) This year’s version also adds crown-themed decorations to all four characters. Bandai posted the new products on its Tabemasu site on April 9, five days before the April 14 store launch. (bandai.co.jp) The sweets are limited-run chilled products, so Bandai said sales end when stores run out and exact arrival dates can vary by location. For shoppers, that means the appeal is not just which character they get, but which face is still left in the case. (bandai.co.jp)
