Delroy Lindo Publishing Memoir
Actor Delroy Lindo announced plans to publish a memoir, providing personal insights and reflections on his career and life experiences. Lindo also stated he will not further address the controversial BAFTA incident, focusing instead on his writing and future projects. The memoir promises insider perspectives from his decades in film and theater.
Born in London to Jamaican parents, Delroy Lindo moved to the U.S. as a teenager and trained at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. He began his career in theatre, earning a Tony Award nomination in 1988 for his role in August Wilson's "Joe Turner's Come and Gone." Lindo developed a notable collaboration with director Spike Lee, starring in his films "Malcolm X" (1992), "Crooklyn" (1994), and "Clockers" (1995). His role as a Vietnam veteran in Lee's "Da 5 Bloods" (2020) earned him widespread critical acclaim, including Best Actor awards from the New York Film Critics Circle and the National Society of Film Critics. Despite the accolades for his performance in "Da 5 Bloods," Lindo was notably snubbed for an Academy Award nomination, a decision that sparked considerable outrage and discussion among critics and film fans. The film itself received only one Oscar nomination, for Best Original Score. Lindo's recent statement about not discussing the "BAFTA incident" refers to the 2026 British Academy Film Awards. While he and Michael B. Jordan were presenting an award, an audience member with Tourette's syndrome involuntarily shouted a racial slur. The BBC, which broadcast the ceremony, and BAFTA later apologized for not editing the slur out of the delayed broadcast. Lindo later addressed the situation at the NAACP Image Awards, acknowledging the "support and love" he received in the aftermath. Throughout his career, Lindo has played a wide range of memorable characters, from a detective in "Gone in 60 Seconds" to an angel in "A Life Less Ordinary." On television, he is known for his role as Adrian Boseman in the legal drama "The Good Fight." For his role as explorer Matthew Henson in the 1997 TV movie "Glory & Honor," Lindo won a Satellite Award. He also portrayed Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in the 1999 film "Strange Justice."
