Gott's Roadside Opens First LA Location

Bay Area burger institution Gott's Roadside officially opened its first Los Angeles location at The Grove, bringing their signature burgers and shakes to Southern California. This marks a major expansion for the beloved brand into the competitive LA food scene.

The brand now known as Gott's Roadside first opened in 1999 in St. Helena, when brothers Joel and Duncan Gott took over a 50-year-old burger shack called Taylor's Refresher. After a trademark dispute, the name was officially changed to Gott's Roadside in 2010. Their concept was to elevate American roadside classics by using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. While they serve burgers and fries, their menu also includes unique items like Ahi poke crispy tacos and chicken schnitzel sandwiches. The restaurant is also known for its California-centric wine and beer list. The quality of their food earned the original location a prestigious James Beard Foundation Award in the "America's Classic" category in 2006. This recognition helped to solidify its reputation beyond a simple burger stand. Before expanding to Los Angeles, Gott's Roadside had grown to include eight locations across the Bay Area, including spots in San Francisco's Ferry Building, Napa's Oxbow Public Market, and at the Chase Center. The move into Southern California marks a significant step for the family-owned company.
