Spring Pruning: Timing is Key

Consult the Old Farmer’s Almanac for the three best days in March to prune and cut back six types of flowering vines now [https://gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/info/only-days-to-prune-in-march] [https://gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/vines/cut-back-these-flowering-vines-in-march].

The Old Farmer's Almanac says that March 14-16 are the prime pruning dates this year. These dates are chosen based on the moon's position, specifically when it is in the second quarter. For Wisteria, Clematis, and Trumpet vines, prune to remove dead or crowded growth. Pruning now encourages vigorous new growth and abundant blooms in the coming season. For climbing roses, honeysuckle, and jasmine, prune to shape the plant and remove any crossing or rubbing branches. Be careful not to remove too much growth, as this can reduce flowering.
