Bybit Co-CEO Helen Liu to Depart
Bybit, the world's second-largest crypto exchange by volume, announced that Co-CEO Helen Liu will leave the company on April 30, 2026. Liu is reportedly departing to pursue her own entrepreneurial ambitions.
Helen Liu's journey at Bybit began in 2020, where she took on several leadership roles, including Vice President of Human Resources, VP of Marketing, Chief of Staff, and Chief Operating Officer, before her appointment as Co-CEO in 2025. Her background includes experience at traditional tech giants like Nokia and Microsoft, bringing a diverse perspective to the crypto exchange. Under Liu's leadership, Bybit solidified its position in the competitive crypto exchange market. As of early 2026, the exchange held approximately 8.1% of the global centralized exchange market share. This growth was fueled by a strong focus on derivatives trading, user interface enhancements, and an expanding suite of products like staking and copy trading. Before becoming Co-CEO, Liu was instrumental in scaling Bybit's global operations and shaping its corporate culture. She also founded the Blockchain for Good Alliance, an initiative to leverage blockchain technology for social impact, and Moledao, a platform to nurture blockchain talent. The departure comes after a period of significant growth for Bybit, which serves over 82 million users across more than 181 countries. Co-founder and CEO Ben Zhou will continue to lead the company, and Bybit has stated that it does not plan to name a direct successor to Liu, expressing confidence in its current leadership team. Bybit has been actively expanding its offerings, including a recent "Golden Season" initiative in collaboration with Tether to promote the adoption of tokenized gold. This move, weeks before Liu's departure announcement, signaled a focus on providing users with a wider range of digital assets. Liu's tenure as Co-CEO was relatively brief, having stepped into the role in 2025. Her career at Bybit saw her guide the company through rapid expansion and various market transformations in the digital asset industry. Her next steps are in the entrepreneurial space, though specifics about her new venture have not been disclosed.
