AI agent skills marketplace launches 1M+ skills

- SkillsMP launched a marketplace on May 13 listing more than 1.3 million agent skills built on the open SKILL.md format. - The marketplace says 1,319,403 skills are searchable by occupation, category and popularity, with compatibility for Claude Code, OpenAI Codex CLI and ChatGPT. - Agensi and other rivals already offer searchable SKILL.md catalogs, while Anthropic continues expanding Skills support across Claude plans and Claude Code.

On May 13, a new layer of infrastructure for AI coding agents came into clearer view: marketplaces built around “skills,” small reusable capability packs that agents can discover and install. SkillsMP says it launched with 1,319,403 indexed skills on its marketplace, a number shown on its public site on May 14. The site describes the catalog as an open SKILL.md ecosystem, with search, occupation filters, category pages and a REST API for programmatic access. Anthropic’s own documentation shows why that pitch matters: Claude’s Skills system is now available across Claude plans, in beta for Claude Code, and through the API with code execution enabled. ### What exactly is being sold as a “skill” here? Anthropic said in an October 2025 product post that skills are folders containing instructions, scripts and resources that Claude can load when relevant to a task. The company later said it had published Agent Skills as an open standard for cross-platform portability, allowing developers to build once and use the same format across Claude apps, Claude Code and the API. (skillsmp.com) SkillsMP uses that same framing. The marketplace says each skill consists of a SKILL.md file plus optional scripts and templates, and that the format is compatible with Claude Code, OpenAI Codex CLI and other tools that adopt the standard. ### How big is the marketplace at launch? SkillsMP’s homepage showed 1,319,403 skills on May 14, along with category counts including 315,103 tools, 232,087 business skills and 190,858 development skills. (claude.com) Its timeline page says the dataset tracks skills pushed to GitHub over time and lists a peak period of 41,789 on April 27, 2026. That total appears to be an index of open-source repositories rather than a count of individually reviewed commercial listings. (skillsmp.com) The site says the marketplace is built to help users search across GitHub repositories, and its API page describes “programmatic access to 1.3M+ skills data via REST API.” ### Which agents does it work with right now? SkillsMP says its catalog is compatible with Claude Code, Codex CLI and ChatGPT. (skillsmp.com) A separate rival marketplace, Agensi, says its skills work with Claude Code, OpenClaw, Codex CLI, Cursor, Gemini CLI and more than 20 agents, either by direct install or via MCP. The broader point is that these stores are not tied to one model vendor. Anthropic’s December 2025 update said it had published Agent Skills as an open standard, and Agensi explicitly markets portability across multiple agent runtimes. (skillsmp.com) ### Is this an official Anthropic or Cursor marketplace? Anthropic’s help center says users on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans can enable skills in Claude, and that the feature is also available in beta for Claude Code users. (skillsmp.com) The company also says Team and Enterprise owners can provision skills organization-wide. But the marketplaces surfacing this week are independent. (claude.com) SkillsMP presents itself as an open marketplace for the SKILL.md ecosystem, while Agensi calls itself a curated marketplace with standards and says every skill is security-scanned. Neither site is presented as an official Anthropic or Cursor property in the materials reviewed. ### Why are multiple marketplaces appearing at once? Agensi, AgentSkills and SkillsMP are all trying to solve the same distribution problem: how to find reusable agent behaviors without hunting through raw repositories. (support.claude.com) Agensi emphasizes curation, paid listings and agent-native MCP access. AgentSkills pitches “production-ready skills” for Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor and Amp, while showing a smaller catalog of more than 24,000 skills. SkillsMP is taking the indexing route, with more than 1.3 million skills pulled from GitHub and arranged by occupation and category. (skillsmp.com) Anthropic’s own rollout helps explain the timing. The company has expanded Skills from a Claude feature into a broader standard with API support, organization management and cross-product use, making third-party storefronts easier to pitch to developers and teams. ### What happens next for users and builders? Anthropic’s help center says users can already enable built-in skills, upload custom ones and, for organizations, provision them across teams. (agensi.io) SkillsMP says developers can query its catalog through a REST API, while Agensi says agents can connect directly to its marketplace over MCP to search skills inside a terminal session. (claude.com) In the near term, the next concrete step is distribution rather than another launch event: users can browse the public catalogs now, and builders can publish or connect skills through marketplace APIs, ZIP-based installs or MCP endpoints offered by those platforms.
