ChatGPT is moving beyond answers and into transactions, with OpenAI adding shopping detection and team agents as companies start selling services inside the chat window. (help.openai.com 1) (help.openai.com 2) (prnewswire.com) OpenAI says ChatGPT can now recognize when a prompt has shopping intent and return product cards with images, details and links to merchant sites. The company says those product results are organic, not ads, and are not influenced by partnerships. (help.openai.com) OpenAI also says merchant ranking can take into account inventory, price, quality, whether a seller is the primary merchant and whether Instant Checkout is available. In a separate help article, OpenAI says users should still check the retailer’s site for final price and availability because some stores block automated access. (help.openai.com 1) (help.openai.com 2) On the workplace side, OpenAI said this week that workspace agents are rolling out over the next few weeks to ChatGPT Business and Enterprise. The agents can be built from templates or from scratch, connected to Google Drive, Google Calendar, Slack and SharePoint, and scheduled to run repeatable tasks. (help.openai.com) That puts consumer shopping and office automation on the same surface: a chat box that can recommend products, pull data from work apps and complete multi-step tasks. OpenAI has also been extending team features in adjacent tools, including delegated Outlook mailbox and calendar actions released on April 8. (help.openai.com 1) (help.openai.com 2) Simply Business pushed that model further on April 23, announcing a business insurance app inside ChatGPT for U.S. users. The company said small-business owners can receive instant insurance price estimates in chat instead of starting on a separate insurance website. (prnewswire.com) Simply Business already sells policies across categories including general liability, professional liability, workers’ compensation, cyber insurance and business owner’s policies through its digital marketplace. In October 2025, it also announced an artificial intelligence advisor aimed at helping small-business owners understand coverage options. (prnewswire.com) OpenAI has been laying the commerce plumbing for months. In late 2025, it introduced shopping research for longer product comparisons and Instant Checkout for purchases completed inside ChatGPT, while saying merchants pay a fee only on completed transactions and that checkout status does not determine which products appear first. (openai.com) (openai.com) Last month, OpenAI said richer product discovery in ChatGPT was being powered by its Agentic Commerce Protocol, a framework for merchant integrations and side-by-side comparisons. The new insurance app and the latest agent tools show that the same conversational interface is being used for both buying decisions and back-office work. (openai.com)
