OpenAI Raises Record $110B

OpenAI announced a landmark $110 billion funding round on February 27, 2026 — the largest private funding round in history. Amazon led with $50B, followed by Nvidia ($30B) and SoftBank ($30B), positioning OpenAI to "scale AI for everyone" and accelerate global deployment efforts. The capital infusion will significantly impact productivity tools and create new startup opportunities across consumer and enterprise AI.

This new capital catapults OpenAI to a pre-money valuation of $730 billion, with a post-investment valuation of $840 billion. The figure represents a massive leap from its $500 billion valuation during a secondary share sale in October 2025 and its $300 billion valuation following a $40 billion raise in March 2025. The investments are more than just cash infusions; they are deeply integrated strategic partnerships. Amazon's commitment is tied to OpenAI using 2 gigawatts of its Trainium AI accelerators, while Nvidia's investment is linked to OpenAI deploying 5 gigawatts of its next-generation Vera Rubin GPU systems. As part of the deal, Amazon Web Services (AWS) becomes the exclusive third-party cloud provider for OpenAI's new enterprise platform, "Frontier," which allows companies to build and manage AI agents. OpenAI is also expanding its existing cloud agreement with AWS by an additional $100 billion over the next eight years. For SoftBank, this $30 billion contribution is a follow-on investment, bringing its total capital deployed in OpenAI to $64.6 billion. This gives the Japanese investment giant an ownership stake of approximately 13% in the AI leader. The historic funding round further intensifies the AI arms race, creating a formidable alliance of Google's chief rivals. It starkly contrasts with competitor Anthropic's recent $30 billion raise at a $380 billion valuation, cementing OpenAI's position as the most capital-intensive startup in history. This financial backing is aimed at supporting OpenAI's immense infrastructure needs and growing user base. The company currently has over 900 million weekly active users, which includes more than 50 million paying consumer subscribers and over 9 million paying business customers.
