Google adds booking actions

Google has begun letting users make restaurant reservations directly from Search in Britain, moving a query into a completed booking flow. The feature combines retrieval with execution and includes integrations with partner booking APIs, idempotency concerns, retries and audit logs as part of the implementation details. Google has started letting people in Britain book restaurant tables from AI Mode in Search, turning a search query into a reservation flow. (blog.google) Google said the feature went live on April 10, 2026, and is available across the United Kingdom. Users can type requests such as a “dog-friendly Italian restaurant in Shoreditch for Saturday at 7 p.m.” and get options with live availability. (blog.google) The booking step still runs through reservation partners, not a Google-owned table system. Google named TheFork, Sevenrooms, Resdiary, Mozrest, Foodhub, Dojo and DesignMyNight as partners for the Britain rollout. (blog.google) Google has offered bookings on its surfaces before through Reserve with Google, which works in Search and Maps in countries where businesses use supported scheduling providers. In the United Kingdom, Google’s help pages say users can search, book and pay for reservations without leaving a Google surface. (support.google.com) What changed is the front end: AI Mode now takes a natural-language request with constraints such as party size, cuisine, dietary needs and location, then searches multiple booking platforms for matching tables. Google said searches for “when to book a table” are up 140% this year. (blog.google) The Britain launch follows Google’s wider push to make Search complete tasks, not just return links. In August 2025, Google said AI Mode in the United States would start rolling out “agentic capabilities” for restaurant reservations, with links to booking pages after it checked multiple reservation services. (blog.google) Google has been extending the same model into travel. In November 2025, the company said AI Mode could help build itineraries, compare hotels and turn plans into bookings as part of a broader travel push. (blog.google) The handoff to partners also limits how much of the transaction Google controls. Reserve with Google’s help pages say changes and cancellations remain subject to each business’s policies, and users may need to call the restaurant directly for near-term changes. (support.google.com) For restaurants and booking platforms, the shift is that Google is moving closer to the transaction while still relying on outside inventory. For diners in Britain, the new step is simpler: describe the meal, pick a slot, and finish the booking from Search. (blog.google)
