SNA International Awarded $151B Missile Defense Contract
SNA International has been awarded a position on the Missile Defense Agency's SHIELD contract vehicle, which has a ceiling of $151 billion. The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract is for the Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense program.
The SHIELD contract is a 10-year, multiple-award indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) vehicle designed to accelerate the acquisition and fielding of advanced missile defense capabilities. It aims to provide a flexible and rapid way to procure technologies for detecting, tracking, and neutralizing a wide range of aerial threats, from ballistic and hypersonic missiles to cruise missiles and other advanced attacks. The contract will remain in effect through December 2035, if all options are exercised. This contract vehicle is a cornerstone of the Pentagon's "Golden Dome" initiative, a comprehensive effort to build a multi-layered missile defense system for the U.S. homeland, deployed forces, and allies. SHIELD is designed to move away from traditional, slower procurement methods by creating a large, competitive marketplace of qualified vendors. This approach is intended to fast-track innovation and keep pace with evolving threats. SNA International is one of over 2,400 companies that have been awarded a position on the SHIELD contract. This large and diverse pool of vendors includes major aerospace and defense giants like Lockheed Martin and Boeing, emerging space and satellite technology firms, and specialists in artificial intelligence and digital defense. The Missile Defense Agency's strategy is to award positions to all qualifying offerors to maximize competition for future task orders. A key focus of the SHIELD program is the rapid integration of cutting-edge technologies. This includes leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning, digital engineering, open systems architectures, and agile development processes to enhance the nation's defensive capabilities. The scope of work is broad, covering 19 different technical areas including research and development, prototyping, weapon system design, and cybersecurity. While known for its expertise in forensic science and consulting services for agencies like the Department of Justice and the Defense Health Agency, SNA International's position on this contract vehicle places it in the national security and defense innovation space. The company, a woman-owned consulting firm, has previously secured other government-wide acquisition contracts, including a prime spot on the GSA's OASIS+ contract for research and development services.
