Planet Fitness Reports 1.1M New Members in 2025

Planet Fitness announced its fourth-quarter and year-end 2025 financial results, reporting net membership growth of 1.1 million for the year. The company also saw a full-year system-wide same-club sales increase of 6.7% and opened 181 new locations.

- The 1.1 million member increase brings Planet Fitness's total membership to approximately 20.8 million at the end of 2025. This followed a period of adding 1 million members in 2024 and 1.7 million in 2023. - This was the first full year of results under CEO Colleen Keating, who started in June 2024 after the previous CEO's abrupt departure in September 2023. - The 6.7% same-club sales growth exceeded the company's official 2025 outlook, which had projected growth in the 5-6% range. - The 181 new locations also surpassed projections of opening 160 to 170 new clubs in 2025. - These results follow a significant strategic decision in 2024 to raise the price of its entry-level "Classic Card" membership for the first time in over 25 years. - Planet Fitness is the market leader in the High-Volume, Low-Price (HVLP) fitness sector, which is the primary driver of membership growth in the U.S. gym industry. The company holds nearly 27% of all U.S. club memberships. - To drive future growth, the company reached an agreement with franchisees to reallocate a portion of local advertising funds to the national advertising budget for 2026. - The broader HVLP gym segment saw a 3.8% increase in visits in the first half of 2025, marking the category's strongest start to a year on record.
