London's Tortello Elevates Italian Dining
"Tortello" is bringing authentic Italian flavor to London's fine dining scene with handmade pasta and traditional techniques. The restaurant's attention to detail and focus on quality ingredients are setting a new standard for Italian cuisine in the city's competitive dining landscape.
Opened in January 2026, Tortello is a contemporary Italian trattoria located within the Royal Lancaster London hotel. It boasts a prime position overlooking the Italian Gardens of Hyde Park and features its own private street entrance to foster a neighbourhood restaurant atmosphere. The location has a cinematic claim to fame, having been featured in the classic 1969 film, "The Italian Job". The kitchen is guided by Chef Giuseppe, with Head Chef Lucio di Basilico, formerly of other London hotel restaurants, also at the helm. Their focus is on elevating traditional Italian dishes with a modern approach, centered around handmade pasta crafted daily. The name "Tortello," meaning a single tortelloni, was chosen to reflect the restaurant's emphasis on craft and attention to detail. Ingredients are meticulously sourced, including silky flours from specialist Italian mills and golden-yolk eggs produced exclusively for the restaurant. Produce is supplied by artisan farmers, such as the Delica pumpkins for the signature Tortello di Zucca, which are matured by a dedicated farmer in Veneto. The 80-seat dining room's design emphasizes Italian craftsmanship and warmth. Notable features include a hand-painted vineyard mural by a London artist, a walkway lined with olive trees, and a vintage pistachio-green 1960s Fiat 500 displayed at the entrance.
