Polestar 4 Dominates Ice Tests
Polestar's latest model, the Polestar 4, has been tested on ice and received praise for its 544 hp output and finely-tuned dynamics. The electric performance sedan proved to be a standout for winter driving conditions, making it a blast to drift on frozen surfaces. The testing showcases Polestar's commitment to all-weather performance capability.
The testing took place at Circuit Mecaglisse, a motorsport complex in Quebec, Canada, known for its multiple ice and snow tracks. This facility is also the location for the Porsche Ice Experience, where drivers are taught to handle high-performance vehicles in treacherous conditions. Polestar's Head of Chassis Development, Joakim Rydholm, is the key figure behind the car's handling characteristics. A part-time rally driver, Rydholm's philosophy is to find the "golden ride"—a perfect balance between dampers, brakes, tires, and steering to create a communicative and predictable feel. The dual-motor version of the Polestar 4 produces 544 horsepower and 506 lb-ft of torque, enabling a 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds. All models are equipped with a 100 kWh battery pack. The dual-motor configuration has an EPA-estimated range of up to 280 miles. A distinctive design feature of the Polestar 4 is its lack of a rear window, a decision made to achieve its low, coupe-like roofline without compromising rear passenger space. Instead, the vehicle relies on a high-definition camera and a digital rearview mirror for rearward visibility. The Polestar 4 enters a competitive segment of electric SUV-coupes, facing rivals like the Tesla Model Y, Porsche Macan Electric, and Genesis GV60. Pricing for the dual-motor model starts at $62,900, positioning it against other premium electric vehicles.
