Renovated Brampton Library Branch Reopens to Public
A Brampton library branch has officially reopened its doors following a period of extensive renovations. The upgrades were designed to modernize the facility and improve the overall experience for library patrons in the community.
The recently reopened South Fletcher's branch, located inside the Susan Fennell Sportsplex, underwent its first significant renovation since its original opening in 1996. The City of Brampton identified the need for upgrades to meet the changing technological and spatial needs of the community. During the renovation, the branch was temporarily relocated to Shoppers World Brampton. The renovation project had an estimated cost of between $500,000 and $749,999. While initial estimates suggested a 16-month closure with a reopening in the fall of 2025, the project was completed for a reopening in early March 2026. The redesigned space now features distinct areas for programming, quiet study, and collaborative work. New windows were added to increase natural light, and the branch received updated furniture and decor. Patrons now have access to bookable meeting rooms, dedicated areas for children and young adults, Wi-Fi, and computer stations. The reopening of the South Fletcher's branch is part of a broader expansion and modernization of the Brampton Library system. In late 2025, the library opened its ninth branch in the Claireville community and expanded the Gore Meadows Branch. Looking ahead, Brampton Library is planning further investments in its facilities. These plans include finalizing the design for a new branch at the Howden Recreation Centre and exploring a refresh of the Cyril Clark branch. These projects are part of the library's 2023-2027 strategic plan to build an inclusive community. Brampton Library CEO Todd Kyle has emphasized the library's role in the growing city, stating, "Brampton Library is proud to present this showcase of our progress since January 2023, a time of immense opportunity and challenge for the Library and for Brampton." The library system saw over 4.8 million in-person visits and 1 million Wi-Fi uses across its nine branches in a recent reporting period.
