Pluvo Raises $5M for Real-Time AI Finance
Pluvo has closed a $5M seed round to build an AI decision intelligence platform for finance teams. The goal is to provide real-time, explainable insights from payment and finance data to help SaaS and marketplace CFOs spot risk, optimize liquidity, and detect fraud instantly. The funding highlights the growing enterprise demand for AI-powered financial tooling.
The $5M seed round for Pluvo was led by Andreessen Horowitz's a16z speedrun, with participation from Deel and several venture capital firms. Underscoring the platform's relevance, a number of Pluvo's own CFO customers also joined the round as strategic angel investors. Pluvo's founders, CEO Alex Labrèche and co-founder Vanessa Galarneau, aim to move beyond traditional financial dashboards. The platform uses agentic AI to analyze financial models and scenarios in real-time, addressing a critical gap between raw data in ERPs and CRMs and actionable business decisions. This focus on real-time decision intelligence is a growing trend as platforms adopt embedded payments. By integrating payments, SaaS companies create new revenue streams but also generate complex data flows. AI-powered tools are becoming essential for CFOs to manage this complexity, optimizing everything from cash flow to customer lifetime value. Platforms often monetize these embedded financial services by becoming Payment Facilitators (PayFacs). This model allows a platform to onboard its users as sub-merchants under a single master account, streamlining payment acceptance and creating a seamless user experience without redirecting to external gateways. Shopify provides a masterclass in this strategy, bundling its core e-commerce software with Shopify Payments. This approach has been highly successful, with payment penetration reaching 60% of its Gross Merchandise Volume by the end of 2023, demonstrating how platforms can leverage their ecosystem to drive financial service adoption. Similarly, Toast has embedded payments and other financial services like lending directly into its point-of-sale system, creating an all-in-one platform for the restaurant industry.
