Michelin’s Tennessee guide now points travelers to Sewanee, where Lunch is listed as a recommended restaurant in the state’s 2026 coverage. (guide.michelin.com) The Michelin Guide’s Tennessee page showed 36 restaurants last week, and the Sewanee page listed two of them: Lunch and Judith. Lunch appears as a $ restaurant serving American and bakery fare at 24 University Ave. (guide.michelin.com 1) (guide.michelin.com 2) (guide.michelin.com 3) Michelin’s inspectors describe Lunch as a daytime operation run by Chef Mallory Tubbs in a 1930s building with local vegetables, jams, honey and dry goods on display. They single out seasonal salads, huevos rancheros, a steak sandwich on house-made baguette, and pastries including zucchini cake with buttermilk glaze. (guide.michelin.com) Lunch’s own site says it operates as a market and food counter in downtown Sewanee, open Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The business says it sells prepared foods, baked goods, provisions, and locally sourced meat and produce. (lunchsewanee.com) Sewanee is a small mountain town better known for the University of the South than for destination dining, but Michelin now lists two restaurants there. Judith, the other Sewanee entry, is Chef-owner Julia Sullivan’s American restaurant on Ball Park Road. (guide.michelin.com 1) (guide.michelin.com 2) Tennessee only entered Michelin’s orbit in April 2025, when the state announced it would be part of the first regional Michelin Guide American South. That debut selection was unveiled on November 3, 2025, with 36 Tennessee restaurants recognized statewide. (tn.gov) (press.tnvacation.com) Michelin has already set the next regional ceremony for October 21, 2026, at The Pinnacle in Nashville. That gives Tennessee restaurants, including small-town spots such as Lunch, another six months in front of Michelin inspectors before the next round of stars, Bib Gourmands and recommended listings is announced. (guide.michelin.com) For now, Michelin’s map of Tennessee dining reaches all the way to Sewanee’s 24 University Ave., where a lunch counter and bakery now sits on the same statewide list as the bigger-city names.
