Google’s $40B Anthropic Bet
- Google agreed to invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic, expanding a long-running partnership and supplying five gigawatts of compute over five years to support Anthropic’s enterprise and coding products. - The package reportedly includes $10 billion in immediate cash, $30 billion conditional funding, and about 5GW of compute over five years, valuing Anthropic at roughly $350 billion in the private market. - The deal ties model-making to cloud capacity and advertising infrastructure, so system-design answers must now address inference cost, capacity planning and vendor dependence.
