Atlanta Streets Alive: Peachtree Block Party

- Open-street festival with live music, art, food trucks, and family-friendly activities. - Sunday Apr 19, 2:00–6:00 PM on Peachtree Street in Midtown Atlanta. - Details and route information at midtownatl.com.

Peachtree Street in Midtown Atlanta is turning into a car-free block party Sunday afternoon, with Atlanta Streets Alive running from 2 to 6 p.m. on April 19. (midtownatl.com) The Midtown Alliance event listing places the block party on Peachtree Street “On The Strip” in Midtown, while the Atlanta Streets Alive route runs from 15th Street south to Alabama Street downtown. (midtownatl.com, atlantastreetsalive.org) Atlanta Streets Alive says the event is free and opens the street to people walking, rolling, biking, skating, dancing, and playing instead of driving. The city calendar lists the street closure window as 12 to 7 p.m., wider than the 2 to 6 p.m. activity window promoted for the public event. (atlantastreetsalive.org, atlantaga.gov) This April route is shorter on the south end than some past Peachtree editions. Urbanize Atlanta reported the 2026 course stops at Alabama Street near Underground Atlanta and avoids construction areas farther south tied to FIFA World Cup preparations. (atlanta.urbanize.city) Atlanta Streets Alive began in 2010 under Propel ATL, then the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, and went on hiatus in 2020 during the pandemic. The program returned in 2023 as an official City of Atlanta initiative with support from Propel ATL and other partners. (atlantastreetsalive.org) The event is part of a broader “open streets” model that temporarily removes cars so residents can use major corridors as public space. Atlanta Streets Alive says the idea follows similar programs in cities across the United States, Canada, and beyond. (atlantastreetsalive.org) For Midtown, the block party also doubles as a business-and-neighborhood draw on one of the city’s busiest corridors. Midtown Alliance describes it as a family-friendly community event, and Atlanta Streets Alive says the program is designed to support local business along the route. (midtownatl.com, atlantaga.gov) If Peachtree feels more like a linear park than a traffic artery Sunday, that is the point: nearly three miles of the city’s signature street are being handed over to people for one afternoon.
