Solis Mammography Appoints President

Solis Mammography has appointed a radiologist to serve as the new president of its physician group. The appointment places a physician leader in a key executive role within the national network of mammography and imaging centers.

The new president of Solis Mammography's physician group is Dr. Michael DeLeo, a board-certified and fellowship-trained breast radiologist with over 15 years of experience. His background includes serving as Chief Medical Officer of Tufts Medicine MelroseWakefield Healthcare and President of Hallmark Health Medical Associates in the Boston area. DeLeo also holds an MBA in Medical Management, combining clinical expertise with a background in healthcare administration. This appointment comes as Solis, the nation's largest independent provider of breast health services, undergoes rapid, private equity-fueled expansion. In May 2025, TowerBrook Capital Partners acquired a controlling stake in the company from Madison Dearborn Partners, signaling a continued focus on growth. Under private equity ownership, Solis has grown from approximately 50 locations in 2018 to over 160 centers in 24 major markets. Solis's growth strategy heavily involves acquiring local and regional radiology groups. Recent acquisitions include the Women's Center for Radiology in Orlando, Florida, and the Knoxville Comprehensive Breast Center in Tennessee, expanding Solis's footprint in key states. This consolidation play aims to build a national network of specialized breast imaging centers. The broader market context for this move is a significant shift of imaging services away from hospitals to outpatient settings. This trend is driven by payers seeking lower-cost care settings and patients preferring more convenient access. Consequently, outpatient imaging growth is outpacing the overall radiology market, with mammography volumes projected to grow by 7% by 2029. In response to these site-of-care shifts, health systems are increasingly developing strategies for freestanding imaging, including acquiring or partnering with independent centers. Solis Mammography engages in both wholly-owned centers and joint ventures with large hospital systems and academic institutions. This hybrid model allows health systems to expand their outpatient footprint while partnering with a specialized operator. Dr. DeLeo's role will involve unifying the expanding Solis Physician Group and leading strategic initiatives across its managed practices. His experience in building clinical programs is expected to be crucial in standardizing care and operations across a growing national network of imaging centers.
